It was a Scottish Cemetery that housed Italian marble tombstones adorned with cherubs, Botticellian angels and crucifixes entwined with creepers. It reeked of history of a bygone Raj and bore testimony of valiant men from  Scotland who laid down their lives in the Empires numerous campaigns - the Afghan War, World War II ........
Then in December 11, 1993 it became the
Walter de Sousa Garden.
The BMC has handed over the garden to the
Cinema-Barrack Road Welfare Group - a group of dedicated individuals who have contributed much to the development of the garden. Thanks to their efforts The Walter de Sousa Garden has a Children's Corner, a Nana-Nani Park and still has many of the original trees that were there on the plot.
The Cinema-Barrack Road Welfare Group also organises  events at the garden on various occasions - Diwali, Republic Day, Christmas ....
The
Sonapur Parish to which Walter belonged and was home to so very many of his hockey and soccer fans also hosts events at the garden
